SPROUTS
At Bear Creek Farm & Ranch we’ve been growing sprouts for over 2 years. We use certified organic seeds. The seeds have been tested to be free from salmonella and e-coli. The seeds are soaked overnight and then rinsed two to three times a day with distilled water. Once the sprouts are finished growing, which takes place within a week, they are packaged and refrigerated.
We currently grow the following varieties:
Alfalfa
Broccoli
Broccoli/Alfalfa Mix
Spicy – Radish/Broccoli
Mixed – Alfalfa/Broccoli/Radish/Fenugreek/Mung Bean
Sprouts are a “complete” food. They contain the enzymes necessary for proper digestion and absorption of food nutrients and are one of the highest sources of natural fiber. They are also very high in vitamins and minerals. Sprouts are also high in protein, with alfalfa sprouts boasting an impressive 35%. All of this makes sprouts one of the most nutritious foods available.
Broccoli sprouts have many times the antioxidants that full grown broccoli has. Try some of the different types of sprouts.
Sprouts can be added to many types of foods and recipes. Use them with or in place of lettuce, as they have more nutritional value. Every kind of salad is better with sprouts added. You can even have a total sprout salad!
