Upcoming Events:
January 7-9th, the Illinois Specialty Growers Association is putting on a conference at the Crown Plaza Hotel and Convention Center. On Saturday January 10th there is a Buy Local, Eat Fresh Seminar from 8:00 through 3:15. We will have a booth there on the 10th.
Notes From The Chicken Yard
The 100 baby laying hens are doing well, they are growing and should be moved into the main coop in the next month. In February, 50 buff Orpington’s will join the flock of new employees for 2009. They should begin to lay around August, hopefully taking us into the fall & winter with more eggs to keep up with customer demand. The adult birds are still laying sparsely, so we are working off of a waiting list for eggs.
Stable Talk Kim, Evelyn, Penny and Cinderella are all doing well in their pregnancies. They are getting bigger every month. Pat & Ben, the boy mules, have been getting out of their pasture and been making a mess of the barn, planned construction of new gates & walls should stop this, thank goodness! calf in the spring and we will begin to milk her. Our first grass fed beef will be available some time in February. We will let everyone know through the newsletters when it is available. Stay tuned for more news!
